My back wall diffusers

Minor specular reflections from the back wall in my control room need to be controlled in some way. For a renovation, I removed some very ugly looking foam-type absorbers from the back wall and I replaced them with four absolutely stunning-looking GIK diffusors. Only one problem, I misjudged how incredibly effective these diffusers would be: they spread and amplify the rear wall reflections, the sound from back there actually is louder— and cause too much diffuse ambience to be brought out from the rear. But they are so beautiful. I want to keep the feeling of beauty back there but mitigate the effect of these without removing the structures from the wall. In the meantime, while waiting for some ideas, a large sheet of 2″ “hard” sonex takes care of the problem.

I wonder if covering two or more of the diffusers with some soft, translucent cloth might produce a nice acoustic and esthetic effect. Attached are two photos, one with and one without the sonex.

And with the sonex covering part of the diffusors. Sonically this does the job for me but looks like sh*t!
