What are planar magnetic headphones?

        There are three types of headphone technologies:

        The first is the most common: moving coil. It’s like a miniature loudspeaker, where a surface moves forward and backward attached to a coil or bobbin that moves in the field of a magnet. It’s a lot like a dynamic mike in reverse.

        The second is “Planar Magnetic”. Where current runs through a printed circuit attached to a thin film or diaphragm. . The thin film rests in a magnetic field provided by permanent magnets. Potentially planar magnetic is much cleaner than moving coil as the diaphragm is much lighter and easier to move and more linear.
