The third printing of the book can be identified on page 4 at the bottom in the series of numbers. It begins with 09 (for the year 2009) and ends with a 3 (for 3rd printing). Some of the corrections mentioned below may already be in the 2nd printing but are definitely in the third: 1. Page 177: Paragraph starting with: "The calibrated monitor...". This sentence should read: "Despite that, the perceived loudness is a little less than in the home theatre because we have only 14 dB headroom, and 6 dB of transients have been removed by compression or limiting." (this has been updated in the 3nd printing) 2. Page 180: K-System Meter Manufacturers. I have not tested all of these meters and cannot guarantee their accuracy. The manual is missing the info. Go to the options menus I/O tab (or right click on the output meter) and you will see the input/output meter options. From the Type drop down menu you can choose K-System. Then K-12, K-14, and K-20 are available. This was a new addition in Ozone 4. To clarify that ONLY when producing productions for the large theatre (typically motion pictures) the surrounds may be calibrated to -3 dB, the second paragraph on this page now reads: Repeat this procedure for each of the 5 main loudspeakers, sending pink noise one channel at a time. For all productions intended for domestic use, all channels should be calibrated to the same gain (except the LFE). Only when producing recordings to be used in the large theatre (e.g. motion pictures) should the surrounds be calibrated 3 dB lower than the fronts. Page 204. Footnote #10: In fact, when theatrical motion pictures are made into DVDs or Television broadcasts, the surrounds are turned down 3 dB during dubbing. Page 242. Rich Tozzoli. We are using equal level calibration for concerts with video. In broadcast, that is the fine line again where you will have to mix for the consumer. Bob turned my surrounds up 3 dB and compared to film practice, I usually print them hot. It was definitely the right call. Page 308. Online Audio Calculators. |
